How to Use a Multimeter on Your Car Battery

There are a number of reasons why you should test your car battery from time to time. If it needs to be replaced, it’s better to know ahead of time. A multimeter is a simple tool that will tell you about the voltage of your battery.

There are two leads on the multimeter. These will connect to the positive and negative cables on the battery once the ignition is off.

The reading on the multimeter will tell you how well the battery is charged. Typically, 12.45 volts is the reading you want to see to show you that it is sufficiently charged. Anything lower will indicate that you may need to replace your battery.
